[ON AIR] The mortal remains of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu will be kept at a private mortuary in Pretoria following an agreement between the Zambian government and his family before the South Africa High Court. The dispute over his remains has drawn widespread attention, extending beyond ...legal and political spaces to cultural and humanitarian concerns. In Zambian tradition, the handling and timely burial of the deceased carries deep symbolic, spiritual, and communal significance, and the court dispute over Edgar Lungu's remains is seen by some as running contrary to this practice. To unpack this further we are joined on the line by Dr Walima Kalusa, from the History Department at the University of Eswatini.
