CAR armed groups disband in major step toward peace

The Central African Republic (CAR) has taken a significant stride on its journey toward peace and national reconciliation.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, two major armed groups, the Anti-Balaka (Ngaïssona wing) and the Revolution and Justice movement (Armel Sayo faction), declared their dissolution and pledged full support for the country’s peace process.

The announcement, which has been widely welcomed by the government and international partners, represents a crucial moment in advancing the Khartoum Peace Agreement and the Disarmament, Demobilisation, Reintegration and Reconciliation programme.

Mahomet Sy Yalingui, President of the Movement of Central African Muslim Intellectuals, described the decision as “a milestone in the long quest for lasting peace”. Speaking in an interview, he said the move “demonstrates that dialogue and reconciliation are beginning to triumph over violence and division”.

Observers believe the development could strengthen confidence in the peace process and inspire other armed factions to join the effort, bringing renewed hope for stability in the country after years of conflict.
