Africa @ Play Topic Of The Day;
FIFA referee Peter Waweru was assaulted following the Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo National Stadium, after a fan accused him of biased officiating.
The supporter struck the official before security personnel intervened swiftly to bring the situation under ...control.
Football supporters may attack or abuse referees due to intense emotional investment, perceived injustices, and a "herd mentality" that takes over in large crowds. These attacks often stem from dissatisfaction with a referee’s decision-making, particularly when a controversial call occurs at a critical point in the match.

What measures should be instituted by football authorities to stop this vice of attacking referees?

[News]

South Africa's Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union(AMCU) President Joseph Mathunjwa has launched a blistering attack on the country's legislative integrity, branding Parliament as a fashion house for the elite.

Mathunjwa was addressing AMCU members ...at a Workers Day rally in Marikana where 34 striking miners were shot dead by the police in 2012. He called for August 16 to be designated as South Africa's workers day in honour of the dead miners.

Mathunjwa says the legislative process has been hollowed out, serving merely as a rubber stamp for international financial institutions and high-level corporate interests while ordinary workers remain sidelined.

The Federation of Unions of South Africa(FEDUSA) says the labour framework must urgently adapt, to keep up with economic pressures and the rise of artificial intelligence(AI).

FEDUSA President Godfrey Selematsela was speaking on the sidelines of Workers’ Day ...commemorations at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre yesterday. He stressed that while AI is reshaping workplaces, it cannot replace the human element.

Selematsela added that workers must be reskilled and included in the transition. He has also called for stronger collaboration between employers and labour, to ensure technological change does not come at the cost of jobs and worker dignity.
