O Presidente da República de Moçambique, Daniel Chapo, recuou numa decisão anunciada menos de 24 horas antes e nomeou o economista Felisberto Dinis Navalha para Governador do Banco de Moçambique. Navalha tinha sido inicialmente indicado para o cargo de Vice-Governador, enquanto Waldemar Fernando de Sousa fora escolhido para liderar o banco central. A Presidência revogou entretanto os dois despachos, alegando “questões supervenientes”, e avançou com uma nova composição da liderança. Felisberto Navalha tem uma longa experiência no Banco de Moçambique, onde trabalhou entre 1996 e 2022, tendo exercido funções técnicas e de gestão, além de ter sido director do Departamento de Estudos Económicos do banco. Agricultural subsidies are designed to support farmers and strengthen food security—but are governments spending this money in the most effective way? A growing global debate is calling for a rethink of agricultural support, with proposals to redirect some subsidies towards sustainable, climate-resilient farming practices. For Southern Africa, the issue is particularly urgent as farmers face climate pressures, rising input costs and the challenge of producing more food while protecting rural livelihoods. The debate was highlighted at the SADC High-Level Food Systems Transformation Policy Dialogue in Durban on 14 August, convened by FANRPAN and partners.
