[ON AIR] South Africa's energy future is at a critical crossroads, as the country looks to balance energy security, affordability, and its climate commitments.
One option increasingly entering the conversation is synthetic fuels, a technology the country is already familiar with, but... which is now being re-examined in the context of decarbonisation and the global shift toward cleaner energy.
The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa, says synthetic fuels could play a role in stabilising supply, supporting the transport sector, and reducing reliance on imported crude, but questions remain around cost, environmental impact, and long-term viability.
@MphoKSithole is joined by Avhapfani Tshifularo, chief executive of the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa to unpack whether synthetic fuels are a realistic solution for South Africa, or simply a stopgap in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
